Finding a rental property can be every bit as challenging as finding a home to purchase -- and maybe even more difficult. Sure, you can search Apartments.com or Craig's List, but are you sure you're seeing all of the available options? Probably not.
The job of finding a rental property can be much harder if you're new to the area. If you're relocating you probably don't know where to begin geographically. As a Realtor, I can help you find the best communities, the best buildings and ensure you give yourself a reasonable commute.
In addition to improving and shortening your search for a rental property, a Realtor can be a huge help in submitting a rental application, negotiating the rental agreement and working through any special needs.
Do you need a rental that accepts dogs, cats or other pets? Sometimes having a professional in your corner can earn flexibility with a potential landlord that might not be possible otherwise.
Are you working against an inflexible timeline? I can assist you with negotiating a move-in or move-out schedule that meets your needs.
Many Realtors Won't Do Rentals
The ugly truth is that many Realtors won't work with renters. Many Realtors are focused only on million dollar homes and big commissions, they couldn't be bothered. Try calling a few Realtors and asking if they'll help you find a 2 bedroom townhome for rent. Best case, they may refer you to an inexperienced new agent who is just learning the business. Worst case, you'll get a rude brush off.
So why am I different? Why am I willing and eager to work with renters when other agents won't? There are a few reasons:
I believe that everyone has the right to be represented by a Realtor. I never judge prospective clients based on their means or needs. I'm here to help anyone in need.
Many of the clients I have worked with as renters have come back to me for help in purchasing a home. It's just good business. My rental clients have also been kind enough to refer and recommend me to their friends and family.
In Northern Virginia, there is a critical lack of housing inventory. Many people are simply forced to rent while they wait to find their "forever home". We all need a place to live!
I used to be a renter. I remember what it was like trying to find a new place every couple years. I just want to help others have a better experience.
